Professor Andrew Vann

Professor Vann trained as a civil engineer and worked in engineering consultancy before completing a PhD in the Civil Engineering Systems Group at University of Bristol in 1994.

He lectured in structural engineering at University of Bristol prior to coming to Australia in 1996 where he took up a similar post in the Faculty of Engineering at Central Queensland University. He held roles as Acting Head of Civil Engineering and Building, and Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning). During this time he pursued research interests in structural monitoring and artificial intelligence as well as leading pedagogical change in moving the Bachelor of Engineering at CQU to a project-based format. After a period as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, he joined the project to implement new Finance and Student computer information systems at CQU as Manager, Strategic Change and subsequently Project Director.

After spending nine months travelling Australia with his family, he returned to CQU in 2002 to work in the Financial Services Division, project managing system improvements associated with financial audit. He then held the post of Associate Director (Corporate Information Systems) before joining James Cook University at the start of 2005 in the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Information Services and Technologies),  and subsequently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Information and Corporate Services).  He took on the role of Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor in an acting capacity at the start of 2008 and was appointed to the role on a substantive basis in October 2008.

Professor Vann joined Charles Sturt University as Vice-Chancellor in December 2011.
